LORNA DOONE'S FARM
Great changes are taking place in the “ Doono ” country, and Caro immortalised by R. D. Blackmore in his Exmoor romance (says the ‘ Daily News’ writer). Lorna Doone’s farm at Malmesmead, which is visited annbally by thousands of tourists, including many Americans, is being offered for sale owing to the breaking up of the Oaro Estate. Oaro Manor, of which “girt Jan Ridd ” was overseer, and, as the book adds, woll ablo to write his name, has already been sold, the purchaser being Colonel B. E. Negus. The desolate Doono Valley, wdiioh was the rocky stronghold of the outlaw Doones, is also to be sold, together with Badgworthy, water-slide. The* Devon and Somerset Staghounds are raising a fund to enable then* to purchase soma cf this land.
