MEMORIAL SERVICE
The two adult lodges of the 1.0.0.1 . in Roslyn--Linda Lodge, No. J, and Linden Lodge, No. D—held a memorial service in the Oddtollows’ Hail on Monday evening in remembrance of the late Bros. R. S’. Wardron, L. Kemnit.z, and James Pat-Ikon, those brethren having Ixxm for a great many years active workers in association with tho lodges names. Bro. Pattkson’s length of service exceeded fitly years, Bro, Wardrop’s twenty-five, years, and Bro. Kemnitz’s over thirty years. There, was a large attendance, including representatives of most of the city lodges. Brn. M. K. Glover, D.D.G.M., who presided, after Chaplain Bro. Holcim had opened the service with prayer, made feeling reference lo the passing oi tho three widely-known and much-respected brethren, after which a record of the deceased members’ activities in Oddfellowship was read. Bro. F. Wilkinson (Grand Secretary ot tho Grand Lodge of New Zealand! and Bro. L. D. Ritchie (Deputy-grand Sire ol: the Grand Lodge of Australia), associated speakers lor the jurisdictions they represented, paid eloquent tributes to the departed brethren, and referred to tho special attributes each had possessed, making for exemplary citizenship and outstanding Oddfellows. Each deceased, it was pointed out. had readily responded to the dear call of service, and each had heen mindful of the duty owed to one’s neighbor. No greater disrespect, to (he departed brethren could he shown than by failure on our part to carry on the work their lain brothers had been so ardently engaged in doing, and the. lesson of their late brothers’ lives, the speakers believed, would have a permanent'effect for good on those who must replace them. The sacred solos, ‘ Crossing the Bar ’ and ‘ House of Many Mansions,’ were rendered with fine expression by Bro. J. Paterson and Sister M. Gilchrist, the hymns ‘ Nearer, My God, lo TEoo ’ and 1 For Ever With the Lord ’ being sung by tho assembly. Sister G. Bartlett was an efficient organist.
