ST. KILDA BAND.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —Once again Mr Pennycuick say# he can correct my statements. He certainty has not done so, but only succeeded in getting more confused himself. I feel tempted to retire from what has developed into a lot of empty talk and useless babble on his md>, the subject under consideration in the first instance having been carefully dropped by Mr Pennycuick, like several other statements of his which I have corrected. Mr Pennycuick certainly is lacking in his knowledge of the early history of the St. Kilda Band. He mentions Mr Macdonald as being Mayor of 'St. Kilda. at, the time negotiations were started regarding the band. Wrong again, Mr Pennycuick. Mr H. At. Ewing was the Mayor of St. Kilda at the time the initial work, or spade work, as Air Pennycuick would call it, was done; hut, 1 do not suggest he completed what ho started. Air Afacdonatd did ihc completing, ami also introduced the band to the Borough of St. Kilda. on August 29, 1912 —nob fourteen years yet. i do not wish to take any credit away from Air Alacdonald by stating this fact, as thab gentleman, in my opinion, deserves .some credit. He certainly worked hard to secure a hand for St. Kilda. Air Pennycuick admits that one city hand was after the honors. I ngam say that two other hands wore in for it, and I know what I am talking about. Perhaps Air Pennycuick can toll you. sir, what bands said “ Don't do it? ' ■ It matters not whether the band rotunda. was used on a Wednesday or Sunday. Air Pennycuick distinctly stated that tho rotunda was not used, and the council contemplated removing it. Utter nonsense. Where would his band have played? Regarding the Sunday night concerts, etc., his remarks cannot bo taken seriously. Tho gold mine is there, and ho- knows it, rnd, what is more, lie is determined to Inivo it all for himself.—l am, etc., No Jew. July 1. Through tha misplacement of a line distortion was caused in one of the sentences of Air Ponnycuick’s letter, in reply to “No Jew,” on the St. Kilda Band yesterday. The sentence should have read ; “ Fifteen years ago the AJornington Band was in pretty low water, and a proposal was put forward to ask the Alayors of Dunedin, St, Kilda, and Mornington to become trustees of the Mornington Baud property, as tho band wanted to become a town band in order to live.” Air Pennycuick made no reference of his own to “ two other city bands.”
