EXHIBITION WOMEN’S SECTION.
TO THE EDITOR. 1 was an exhibitor in this section ’ both in the, permanent section and in the special exhibit section, and so far have not received my awards in the lonner section, and am nondonng it f am going to. The schedule said: “Awards will ho given,” and one naturally took that to mean a medal, or if funds would not permit that expense, a certificate. My entry foes came to 15s in the former section and 7s in the special exhibit class. I see that the section bought an American picture *nid it to tho Public Ait Gal levy collection, aiso that a tlopn.atin i was imule to‘Miss Joan (the secretary) hv the \AV.C.A. aud a donation of £IOO out of surplus.funns was promised. This, in my opinion, is a form of robbery froin all tho exhibitors. It w.as fhe, exhibitors who made I lie sect ion a success, and any surplu., of funds should have gone back to them in the form of prizes, medals, or certilicates, The materials lor ma„.i|g various exhibits ran me into ovei £3, and f was a prize winner in many ol the different classes. A few weeks ago I received an extremely poor certdicato from the “special section,” hut as the entry in this class was c.ily Is I did not expect much. Nothing, minever, has come to hand for my awards in fhe permanent section. I think 1 have a right to a grievance under these conditions.—l am, etc., Juno 14. An Exhibitor.
[The Honorary Organising Secretary of the Women’s Section says:—“ll ‘Exhibitor’ will forward her name iior complaint Hint slio lias not reccuocl her certificates will bo inquired into. With tho money at our disposal it would have been impossible to award medals, as suggested by your correspondent. Tho money voted to the Y.W.C.A. was simply returning a grant made by it to the section at the beginning wben funds wore very low. Tbo £4O which the British (not American) picture cost would have enabled us to give very little to each of tbo many prize winners. It is far (sorter to have a permanent record of the groat success of the women's .ection, which was undoubtedly chiefly due, as your correspondent suggests, to the wonderful work of the exhibitors and to the generosity of those women of Otago who donated funds.’ —Ed.
