A. Gainhle 94, W. Sattenhwnitc 90, tiv, Ramsden 90. The winner of the best net trophy event was H. A. Gamble, 94 gross (less handicap 24), 74 net . W. Ramsden 90. Gamble had the best match score. BALMACEWEN. BOSS DETAINS CHAMPIONSHIP, The Otago golf championship final round over 3(5 holes was played between K. Doss and D. 11. Butcher, 1 when Boss won, 7 up and 5 to play. I Butcher, at the cud of tbo morning round, was 5 down. His lung play was I more erratic than that of lloss, and i his strong point was his putting. Boss has now won the championship seven i times, or every year that he lias contested it since 1914. The final of the Bahnacewen Cup was also played, and B. G. Haggitt heat J. Evans, 2 and 1. The play-off of the tie in last week’s Pt. Andrew’s Cross competition between H. C. Rose and E. Tarnblyii was won by Rose with a score of 95_]6—79. * WA IB ARAB A CHAMPIONSHIP. The final of the Wairarapa championship golf tournament was won by T. H. Horton (Maslerton), who defeated I). C. Collins (Wairarapa ), 2 and 1, ( over thirty-six holes. I TARGET COMPETITION. j LONDON, June 11. j The ‘Evening .Standard’s’ target compcttion is Ix'ing hold at the Moors Park course. The scoring is by points instead of by strokes, and is designed to give each shot its own value, and 1 thus induce mure accurate shots and i higher scores. Drives from the lee | fimsiiing in the fairway are awarded 1 point. The green, for the purposes of approach shots, is divided by a target I into three circles—inner, middle, and 1 01 ,ter— earning 9. 8, and 7 points rs- | sportively. Points are also awarded for i accuracy in putting. I In the first round the most prominent 1 scorers were Mitchell 172, Melhorn 160, Duncan and Alliss 159, Herd 158, Cnr- ! nogic and Clark 153, Hagen 148, Popi plowed 144, Howard 141, Kirkwood ’ 128. The highest possible score is 228, Mitchell's total represented a score of 69 under ordinary conditions, equalling the record for the comt-.0. Mitchell, with a score of 337, won 200. Herd was second, with 319 points, and Duncan and R. (}. Herd, the veteran’s son, were third, with 317. Melhorn was fifth, with 316. In the international foursome Hagen and Bobby Jones beat Mitchell and TV'ov 1 up and 2 to play.—A, and N.Z.'Cable.
