The hearing was concluded in the Police Court, Palmerston North, yesterday afternoon of the series ol charges against John Joseph Hansen, alias Jim Wereta, aged twenty-three years; Neils Marten' Olsen, aged thirty-two; and Edith Resina Smith, aged twentr-two. The first-named pleaded guilty to stealing from a house at Papatawa the sum of Hs and sundry articles, including a Post Office Savings Bank book, of the total_ value lof £3°os. He further pleaded guilty to forging a Post Office withdrawal slip for £159, and uttering the same to Smith. He was committed for sentence at the Wellington Supreme Court. Smith pleaded not guilty to forging another withdrawal _slip_ for the same amount, and tittering it to a postal official, and also not guilty to conspiring with the others to defraud the Postmaster-General of £159. She nas committed for trial. Hansen and Olsen pleaded guilty to conspiracy in the latter connection, and were committed to Wellington for sentence. “About a year ago," writes Mr Edward A.
