BRAHMS COLLECTED EDITION
In April, 1927. it will be thirty years since Brahms died in Vienna, and his collected works are then to he published. Although lie was not a friend of collected editiqns, he took a personal share in the revision of Mozart’s ‘ Requiem,’ of Schubert’s Symphonies, and of Chopin’s and Schumann’s works, and he prepared a most thorough collected edition of his own work by stating in a copy written by himself all the mistakes ho discovered in his own editions and all his improvements. The copy, which could hardly be more perfect, was left bv Brahms to the Society of the Friends to Music in Vienna, to which he left all his unpublished works. In 1921 the society placed that invaluable copy at the disposal of three musicians, who wore entrusted with the task of revision. One of them is the librarian of the society, Professor Mandvezewski, an old friend of Brahms, The collected works will be published by Brcitkopf and Hartcl. The first volumes will contain the ‘ German Requiem ’ and the Symphonies.—‘ Observer.’
