JAZZ SAVES PANIC
ON SINKING STEAMER. NEW YORK, May 27. Jazz saved a panic when America’s largest river steamer—the_ Washington Irving—rammed a barge in the Hudson River, and sank. There were 860 passengers aboard, and when the accident happened there were signs of panic, but the band struck up the latest jazz tune. The passengers immediately became quiet, and eventually all were rescued.
