“ON WITH THE DANCE"

* SAVOY SEASON BEGINS “ On. with the da nee ” was iho word at the Savoy on Saturday afternoon and night, and certainly joy was unconiined among the dancers in the beautiful Tudor Hall. Chiefly responsible for the bubbling delight was the presence of the now Savoy Dance Band, tli© music of which was recognised and welcomed as “just the very thing.” Lively, yet rhythmical; jazzy yet melodious; irresistahly alluring in its call; the band of six artists undoubtedly “ mnde > good ” and has already established itself in the Dunedin cabaret world. The afternoon da nee was of the popular type; that is to say, the admission, fee was placed at a low figure. But the full hand was there, and other conditions were practically the same as those governing supper dances. It is intended to hold a similar popular dance on Thursday of the present week, catering for the dancers to whom dinner jacket nr evening dress is not necessarily essential to enjoyment. Indeed, the management wish it to be understood that ordinary dress will lie observed at all “popular” evenings throughout the season. The floor of the Tudor Hall is in excellent condition, and with tho artistic lighting scheme, the beautiful stage setting, and the pleasant and comfortable surroundings generally, a good time is ahead for Savoy dance patrons. Saturday’s supper dance was also largely attended, and patrons old and new spent a really delightful evening. Many of the former expressed their pleasure at the resumption of activities, and everyone present voiced their satisfaction and appreciation in regard to the band and the general arrangements. One of these visitors, a muchtravelled theatrical man, who emphatically declared the now band to be “ tho best in New Zealand.”
