a. ADMIRAL SIR WTLMOT H. FAWKES. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, May 29. The death is announced of Admiral Sir Wilmot Hnwksworth Fawkes, K.C.B. K.C.V.0., LL.D.—A. and N.Z. Cable. [Admiral Sir Wilmot. Fawkes was born in IS4O, and entered the .Royal Navy in 186 U Ho rose to the position of commandci in 1886, when he commanded the Royal yacht. He was in command of several warships at various periods, and in 1891 was made naval adviser to the Inspector-General of Fortifications He was A.D.C. to Queen Victoria, and private secretary to the First Lord of the Admiralty. The death is announced of Sir James Cantlie, K.B.E.—A. and N.Z. Cable. [Sir Janies Cantlie was born in Banffshire in 1851, and was educated at the Aberdeen University and the Charing Cross Hospital. At the time of his death ho was president of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, which body he founded in 1921. He was also consulting surgeon to the Seamen’s Hospital Society. His official positions included those of demonstrator and lecturer at Charing Cross Hospital and examiner at Aberdeen University. He went to Egypt in 1883 with the" cholera expedition, and was later made dean of the College of Medicine for Chinese in China. He visited medical centres throughout Asia. Europe, and America.
