Record House for To-nighi’s Concert
Instead of waning—as many predicted it would —the public interest in the Exhibition increases as the last days draw near. Yesterday the attendance tally reached 18,466, and this brought the grand total to 2,799,280.
Early to-day the second interim prize of £5 was claimed, the lucky visitor being a young girl from Southland. A daily average of 20,072 is all that is now required to bring the 3,000,000 on the board.
The clerk of the weather is interested, too, and though occasionally threatening to damp our enthusiasm with a shower ho has so far stayed his hand. With a continuance of fine autumn days there is no doubt of the desired record being achieved. The only question is: When?
The benefit concert tendered to the men of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders’ Band to-night promises to be a memorable occasion. The house is practically booked up, and the takings are likely to constitute a record for the dominion.
