The Katoa, which arrived this morning from Lyttelton, will sail at 10 p.m. for Auckland'and way ports. The Waipnhi was to leave Wellington to-day for Lyttelton and Dunedin. She is duo on Wednesday to load out for Lyttelton, Wellington, and Auckland. 'The Holmdale, which arrived at 11.50 a.m. on Saturday from Wanganui and Wellington, went to Port Chalmers this morning to he docked. She will return to Dunedin on Wednesday to load Inr Oamani, Timaru, Lyttelton. "Wellington, and Wanganui. She will sail on Wednesday night. The ketch Mlro arrived in file Lower Harbor on Saturday night from Auckland, and is discharging explosives. She will sail to-morrow for Grey mouth to finish unloading.; Afterwards the Miro will load explosives ex the schooner Hnia at Grpymonth for Port Chalmers. After filling up with about 2,000 tons of wool, butter, cheese, kauri gum, dried milk, flax, and general cargo the Shaw, Savill, and Albion sfearner Waiwera left Auckland on Friday lor New York, Boston. ami London. The Wingatui will leave Auckland about the end of (ho week for Wellington, Lyttelton. Dunedin, and Bluli. The Maori, from AVellington. arrived at Lyttelton at (i. 55 a.m. yesterday, and passengers and mails came south by the 8.5 U a.m. express to-day. MAMARI LOADING. The S.S. and A. steamer Mamari started loading dotniniory products at Port Chalmers this morning for England. She will sail at daybreak tomorrow for Bluff, and will return to Port Chalmers on March 21 for further loading. On March 2(3 the Mamari will sail from Port for Wanganui roadstead, Napier, and Auckland to complete her loading. NEAV Y OR K-CALIFORNiA. An order for a fast 22,000 ton passenger liner for the. New YorkCalifornia service has been placed with the Newport Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company. The new liner, which will bo one of three sister ships, will bo the largest and most luxurious vessel ever constructed in an American shipyard. She will he fitted with a new type of propelling machinery, known as the turhoelectric drive, this will give her a sea speed of 18 knots. She will have accommodation for over 700_ passengers and a cargo-carrying capacity of 7,800 tens. The vessel’s design is based on the now “ Minno ” class, and should meet exacting requirements of service on ail voyages. Special attention has boon paid to ventilation. AVith her hull and upper works painted white, the liner should present a very smart appearance. Novel features in the. vessel’s construction will include large size ports, through which automobile,s belonging to passengers may he driven on hoard. It is expected that the new liner will he ready for service in the fall of next year, when she will take her place in the Panama-P.acific Line’s New YorkSan Francisco service. ARGYLLSHIRE RADIOS. t The master of (he Scottish Shire steamer Argyllshire has wirelessed that he expects the vessel to arrive at Gisborne at 6 a.m. to-morrow from Sydney to commence loading for London. The Argyllshire will lift cargo also at Wanganui, Timaru, Port Chalmers, and Wellington. NEWBORN SAILINGS. The A. and A. Lino advises the following projected sailings from New York to New Zealand:— The City of Melbourne has been substituted for the City of Durban, and is to sail on March 25 for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, and Portland. The City of Bombay is expected to sail on April 8 for Auckland, Hawke’s Bay, Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin. With cargo for discharge at Auckland, AVellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin, tlie Trewyn is scheduled to clear New York on April 22. PERSONAL. Mr R. Gardner, second engineer of the Kairanga, has relieved Mr AA r . C. Murray as second engineer of the I Maori. 1

Mr W. Findlayson, who has been acting second engineer of the R.M.S. Niagara, has resigned from the Union Company’s service, and Mr A. N. Smith, of the Marama, has joined the Niagara. Mr H. R. Frith, late second engineer of - the Maori, has joined the Otokia, relieving Mr H. R. Johnstone, who has been granted sick leave. Mr F. Steinmuller has rejoined the Maungnnui. as fourth engineer. Captain E. H. Wilson, of the Union Company’s Wellington tug Terawhiti, has gone on holiday leave. Captain IH W. Hargraves, of the Natone, is acting master of the Terawhiti, and Captain C. White is temporarily in charge of the Natone. CARGO FROM CANADA. Advice received by the Canadian Government Line states that the steamer Canadian Explorer replaces the Canadian Britisher, and leaves Halifax on March 25 for New Zealand ports; also the Canadian Conqueror replaces the Canadian Spinner, and sails on April 25 for New Zealand.
