SHORT SKIRTS DANGER

WOMEN WHO LOSE CHARM. Whenever Dame Fashion decrees short skirts hundreds of women lose half their former charm (says “Gloria,” in the ‘Sunday Chronicle’}. Mostjieople take care to hide their bad points whenever possible, whether of character or appearance, but some women insist on following a new fashion, regardless of the fact that in doing so they are emphasising their bird points to such an extent that their good points are passed unnoticed. If your legs are very thin, very fat, or shapeless, if, you are very tall or short, the short skirt is not_ for you, however much you may admire it on other people. But you need not despair and resign yourself to dowdiness and last year’s fashions, for with a | little careful arrangement you can be as smart as that vampish-looking manikin at the dress show. STOCKINGS TO TONE. If your legs resemble either champagne bottles or drain pipes, take_ care to wear shoes and stockings of the same color as your dress, but a shade darker whenever practical. Of course, black stockings with a seam up the back will make your legs look their very slimmest, but if your dress is grey or fawn they will look less conspicuous if clad in hose to tone. But remember to wear black or dark brown whenever possible. The gjj-1 with painfully thiiu legs should wear light stockings on every suitable occasion, and she will find that those with a broad rib will make her legs look less thin. If you are short and at all inclined to plumpness you must not wear short skirts, be your legs ever so beautiful. FOR THE TALL GIRL. The exceptionally tall girl often has the idea that she “ can wear anything ” because of her extra inches; but slio is wrong. She must be careful not to accentuate her height, and if she follows the short skirt the unusual length of leg shown will make her look ungainly. If you are choosing an evening frock get ono with an underskirt of ninon or some transparent .material a little longer than the rest of the frock. If it is a day dress the same effect may bo got by the fashionable long tunic, or floating apron panels back and front.
