RAILWAY SERVANTS
A.S.R.S. SECRETARYSHIP VOTING ISSUES STATED. [Peh United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, Alarch 12. In reference to the Press telegram yesterday stating that the Auckland branch (if the Amalgamated Society or 'Railway Servants had resolved to take legal steps, at the expense of the branch, against the Executive Council's proposals for the general secretaryship by lodging an injunction, Mr J. Alack (general secretary) said to-day that the injunction was not being brought by the Auckland branch, hut by a member of the branch. “It is not proposed, said Air Mack, “ that the position shall be open to permanent members only, ns suggested, because there are three issues before members to bo decided by preferential voting. They are : 1. That the position shall be open io all members of the society. 2. That it shall bo restricted to those members who have two years financial membership dating back from the dale of nomination. ;i. That it shall he confined to members ot the permanent staff only. “It will he observed that if the third issue were elminiuatcd those who are not in favor of either of the remaining issues would have no alternative hut to retrain from voting or mailing their voles informal. in other words, they would be disfranchised. Aa the ballot paper stands, every financial member can vote in favor of the issue which in ins opinion is the most, desirable. There is no violation of the .society's rules, in iact, it is in accordance with the biennial conference decision. Tin' executive is merely consulting the membership on a question that is of the utmost importance prior to arriving at a decision."
