BANKRUPT DUNEDIN TAILOR trading under assumed name Creditors are not often called together to-deal with the estate of a bankrupt who was adjudicated insolvent, as long ago as thirty-four years. Yet such a meeting was held yesterday in the office of the local Official Assignee (Air E. W. Cave), the representatives attending of throe Dunedin firms who had money owing to them by Michael Bernston, a tailor, who wont .bankrupt in this city in 1811‘i. The Assignee said that bankrupt originally filed in 189-, and again m 1921 was made a bankrupt on the petition of a creditor in Auckland. Ho was discovered trading at Kaitoke under the name ol M. J. Bernie. '1 ho Depntv Assignee found that ho had been adjudicated bankrupt down here, and bad never received his discharge. Bankrupt was prosecuted and sentenced to a term of imprisonment. The assets of the second bankruptcy wore claimed for the creditors of the first bankruptcy. Altogether £62 13s lid was realised, and, alter the payment ot costs, the sum of £53 19s lid had been remitted to Dunedin. The Deputy Assignee and the petitioning creditor in Auckland webo claming costs, but the creditors had to pass a. resolution before they could be paid. Even if the creditors decided not to pay the costa, the petitioning creditor nad power to apply to the court to got them paid out of the estate. The total debts of the first bankruptcy amounted to £(594 16s sd. In the second case the liabilities were over £6OO. On the motion of Mr Horton it was decided to pay the costs. The Assignee intimated that in due course ho would forward the dividends.
