PIRATES FOOTBALL CLUB

THE ANNUAL MEETING The forty-fourth annual meeting of tho Pirates Football Club was hold last night, Mr E. V. Fairbaini presiding over a big attendance of members and intending members. TH E PAST YEAR. The Chairman said that they could congratulate themselves upon the success of tho season, duo to the tine spirit which had been shown. The club was in a very good position financially, and the excellent achievements of the teams were in a largo measure due to the coaches and the club captain. The record of the fourth grade A team had seldom been approached, while the club had fared remarkably well in representative honors. Mr Wise and others ably upholding tho honor of the Pirates. He congratulated Mr AT. Brough on being stroke of the four-oar championship crow (Otago’s), Mr Burgess (one of the Pirates’ juniors) on being a member, and Mr Paris on bis success as the crew’s trainer, excusing his mention of rowing by stating that members of their club could distinguish themselves in realms of sport other than football. A valuable member in Mr Tyson had been lost by death during the season. Tho social functions had been particularly successful. Ho had groat confidence in the club, and it was with pleasure that be moved the adoption of the report and balance-sheet. Air Crosby Morris, whose connection with the club dates back to 1882, seconded the motion. He said that during his association with the club lie had not known it to be in a better position than to-day. Another member said that nine teams of the club bad competed throughout the season without any one defaulting, and every team had played practically at full strength. A tenth team could have competed had tho players entered sooner. The club was under a deep obligation to the Otago Rowing Club for placing its shed at the disposal of the Pirates’ senior team for training purposes. Tno motion was carried.

The financial statement indicated a credit balance of £lB Is 9d. OFFICE-BEARERS.

Pearce; assistant lion, secretary, Mr U-. \Valker; lion.treasurer, Air 11. L. Fairmaid; delegates to O.R.F.U.—- Messrs Fairbairn, Spedding and Stycbe; delegate to Sports Protection League, Air L. Fairmaid; delegate to Accident Insurance Fund, Air bairbairn; Alatch Committee (senior)— Messrs Robinson, Al'Kellar. and chib captain, (junior) deputy club captain, W. Alercer, and 11. Ritchie. CLUB ROOAI WANTED. The ingoing committee was recommended to investigate the possibilities of establishing a club room and instructed to report on the matter at a general meeting. OPENING DAY. It was agreed that the opening date be March 27.
