SOUTHLAND RACES. THE CONCLUDING DAY. [From Oitr Own E/sporter.] INVERCARGILL, March 11. Tho weather was beautifully fine lor the concluding day of tlio Southland Racing Club’s Summer Meeting, but tiro attendance was only fair. The course was very last, and the six lurking record for tho track (Imin 13 l-ssec) was equalled by Set Sail when she won tho President’s Handicap; and a fresh track record for a mile (2min 17sec) was established by Maearanda when he dead-heated with Carbon in the Saddh Trot. Tbs racing was fairly interesting, and the fields good. Tho 'gate receipts for the day amounted to £336 7s, making £BIB 3s for the meeting, as compared with £987 15s last year. The totalisator turnover was £13,890, as compared with £13,638. making a total for the meeting of £29,515 Ids, against £30,3(16 10s last year.

After the President's Handicap was run an inquiry was held into the alleged interference by Sot Sail with Corn Money about a furlong after the start, but after hearing the evidence no action was taken. All started in the Myross Hack Welter Handicap, 7f, and Pink Note was again made favorite, being about £IBO bettor backed than Frivolwith Solzia the only other starter solidly backed. From a good start tho favorite and Frivol were first out, but after going two furlongs Frivol took the lead, and was followed by Pink Note and Vogue. Vogue ran into second place at the far turn, and folloAved Frivol into tho straight, where Pink Note and Solzia moved up. The favorite challenged at the distance post, and in a good finish boat Vogue by a neck, with Frivol half a length off third, and Solzia next. Time. Imin 2S 2-sscc. Totalisator, £1,284 10s.

lii tho New River Harness Trot-., 2m, the Oamaru-trained Terence Dillon, with J. M'Lennan in the sulky, was selected as a gqpd thing, Maiwhariti, Jolly Pet, and Ding Dong 801 l being the only others well backed. All went away well, Ding Dong 801 l at once going to the front, and at the. end of six furlongs tho leaders wore Ding Dong Bell, Northopo, Lingfield, Terence Dillon, and Red Admiral. _ There was no change in this order until reaching the far turn, where tho favorite ran into second place to Ding Dong Bell. This pair then drew away, the latter having the advantage of the rails. Just leading into the straight the driver of Ding Dong Bell appeared to bo making rather free «!» of his whip,-but despite this tho Oamani gelding stuck to his task well, amj, though ho broke on the post he boat Ding Dong Bell by a neck, with Red Admiral eight lengths further back; Revolt and Maiwhariti next. Los Ambus and Valdamo were the withdrawals from the President’s Handicap, 6f, for which Corn Money was sent out a short odds-on chance, with Set Sail, Sol toe, , and Lava the best supported of the others. Hall Mark caused a long delay at tho barrier, but from a good start the favorite was slow to got out, and tho field ran half a furlong before Set Sail showed out, and was almost immediattfy afterwards headed by Ecuador, who led Set Sail, Lava, an'd Circulation along _ the back. Ecuador was still in front racing for the home turn, where Corn Money ran round the field into second place. Ecuador led Corn Money, Set Sail, Circulation, and Warhaveu into, the straight, and it was only in the last 50yds that Set Sail caught him. Warhaven came with a great run, and just failed to catch Set Sail by a nose. Circulation was three parts of a length further back, and was followed by Ecuador, Soltoe, and Corn Money. Time, Imin 13 l-ssec (equal to the track record). Totalisator, £1,893. All started in tho Invercargill Steeplechase, about 2|m, and Cassels was sent out a slightly better favorite than Kipling, whom lie w r as meeting on only 71b hotter terms. This pair carried half the pool invested, Windermere and Greenstone being the best backed of the others. Blazing Light led Windermere and Cassels over the stand double, and at the next fence Mazama ran off. Cassels led Ngarata and Windermere over the sod wall and round to the stand double again, where the order was Cassels, Windermere, Greenstone, Ngarata, and Kipling. At the next fence—tho big post and rails—-Windermere and Mettle' Drift hit very hard, both riders making good recoveries. Greenstone led Cassels and Kipling over the sod wall, and at the far turn Kipling moved up into second place. At the second last fence Kipling, Greenstone, and Cassels were in lino, the former taking the lead from Greenstone on landing. He led over the last fence by three lengths from Greenstone, and stayed on to win nicely by a length from Greenstone. Ngarata, ten lengths away, beat Cassels, who pulled up lame, for third place, and Flag Lieutenant and Windermere were next. All the field excepting Mazama jumped the course. Time, smm 8 3-ssec. Totalisator, £1,183*. All started in the Awnrna Handicap, lim. for which Ravenna was made a much better favorite than Listening Post, with Mountain Lion, Full Swing, and Happy Days next in demand. Francai.se and Happy Days gave a lot of trouble at the barrier, and the former was badly left when the_ barrier rose. Mountain Lion, Full Swing, Listening Post, and Dazzling Light were in line in front passing the stand, and Mountain Lion, Full Swing, and Dazzling Light continued to show tho way to the six-furlong post, where the former had dropped back a little. Full Swing, Mountain Lion, and Listening Post were almost on even terms at tho far turn, where Ravenna got an opening on the rails. Listening Post led Full Swing, Mountain Lion, Ravenna, and Goranial into tho straight. The latter challenged Listening Rost inside the distance, and wont on to beat him by a length and a-half, with Ravenna, who did' not get a clear rim in the straight, half a length further back, Tommy Dodd, Full Swing, and Happy Davs next. Time, 2min i l-ssoc. Totalisator, £1,9425. In the Bluff Handicap, 6f, Flight was withdrawn, and Kapuna was sent out a few pounds better _ favorite than Black Duke, with Obligio and Jack o’ Lantern tho best _ backed of the others. Kapuna, Bilbo, and Black Duke were the first out, but going to the back stretch Black Duke took charge, and led Kapuna, Jack o’, Lantern, and Bilbo. At the far turn Black Duke was joined by Kapuna, and the pair led Vogue, Bilbo, and Jack o’ Lantern into tho straight. Black Duke was passed by Bilbo at the distance post, where Obligio commenced a good run on the outside. Bilbo stayed on well, and, aided by a 61b allowance, beat Obligio by a neck, with Kapuna a head away third. Black Duke and Jack o’ Lantern were next. Time, Imin 42 l-ssec. Totalisator, £1,8525-. Wallace Mac and Dixie Dillon were scratched for tho Dash Saddle r I, rot, Im, and Final MTvinncy was made about £l3O better favorite than Carbon, with Macaranda and Dillon Blake next in demand. Carbon began very smartly, and led Eous in the back stretch. Then Macaranda and Leith Chimes ran into second _ and third places. Carbon was still in charge at the far turn, and led Macaranda and Final M'Kirmey into the straight. Macaranda joined Carbon at the distance post, the pair being locked together to the judge’s box, where Macaranda appeared to win, but the judge made it a dead beat. Final M'Kinney was a dozen lengths away third, with the Monkey, Leith Chimes, and Eous next, Jimps i .Carbon* 2min 19sec;

Los Ambus was made a few pounds hotter favorite than Apache in the Winter Oats Handicap, Im, with Queen Balboa and The Cheat almost as well hacked. Apache led Valdamo and Los Ambus along the back, and at the sixfurlong post Valdamo ran up to Apache, the pair leading Los Ambus to the homo turn. Apache drew away in The straight, and won comfortably by a length from Los Ambus. Queen Balboa was two lengths further back, followed by Tho Cheat and Valdamo. Time, limn, 10 4-ssoo. At the school swimming sports today Mr Carl Atkinson, of Canterbury, the former holder of nearly every New Zealand championship from 100yds to one mile, gave a most instructive demonstration on various modes oi swimming.
