WAITOMO HOLD-UP
FIHEiEti WANT HEW COOK . [Per United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, February 28. When the Waitomo was ready to sail for Newcastle at 5 o’clock last evening the firemen refused to take, the ship to sea unless the cook was discharged. As a number of tho stoker*; were intoxicated it was thought they ‘would bo more reasonable when sober. However, this morning they still said they would not sail with tho present cook, and consequently tho Waitomo’s departure has been postponed until 10 to-morrow morning. March 1. The steamer is still delayed, the stokers insisting on tho cook being replaced. The Union Company lias declined to accede to their demand, the captain and officers maintaining that the present cook is efficient. Tho company is awaiting developments til! tho afternoon, when it is understood that it will, if necessary, take some further action to ovet come the hold-up.
