LOGANISMS

Many of us know the feeling that trickled down the spine when, on creeping through the fence loaded with ; 11begotten apples, we were accosted by the stern-faced owner of the orchard. We were relieved when authority demanded no more than the restoration of the stolen goods, and we were admonished and discharged, not by the magistrate, but by the orchardist. That feeling must have pervaded a party of mischievous youngsters a night or two ago, when, having conceived and carried out the idea that it would be good fun to push some of the seats in the Grand Court into the lagoon, they were brought up standing by a .constable. " In you go and fish those seats out,” said the man m blue, and the boys had perforce to wade in and do unwilling rescue duty. Then, damp, and discouraged, 'they went 'home. What mother and father said, and did, to them is not recorded. ■* / * * * Forty-two happy and expectant youngsters, pupils of the Tapanui School, arrived in Dunedin last night to visit the exhibition.' To-day they were enjoying the sights and the bright sunshine to the full. The party are billeted in Burns Hall, and will remain in town till Saturday. # * * flit is the intention of the Otago Expansion League to arrange a trip to a number of the more readily accessible spots for the purpose of showing tho visiting Exhibition Commissioners some of the beauties of our city and its environs. This would have been done ere this but for the. doubtful’weather that has unfortunately prevailed during 1 1most every'week-end for a long time past.

Included in the programme at the popular cinema theatre in the New Zealand Government Court to-day are the following films:—‘Making a Book,’ ‘Fiirs and Fashions,’ ‘Mount Egmout/ and ‘Rotorua.’

“ Nelson’s record for brilliant sunshine is unequalled by that of any other town in New Zealand. In one year it reached a total of 3,100 hours, equal to an average of more than eight hours’ bright sunshine for every day in the year. The average yearly figure can be quite safely placed at about 2,500 hours, equal to seven hours of sunshine a day. The Dominion Meteorologist has pointed out in the ‘ New Zealand Official Year Book that Nelson’s climate record bears comparison with some of the most favored regions of the world. Italy, for example, boasts of averages of from 2,000. to 2,400 hours of sunshine per annum. Nelson, with its 2,500 hours or more, surpasses even Italy.”—‘ Sunny Nelson ’ booklet, distributed by Wellington, Nelson, etc., Combined Provincial Courts. * * * * A further addition to the already attractive Queensland exhibit in the Australian Court consists of samples of prime hams, bacon, and canned dairy products. Tinned meats are a feature, and the whole section is another reminder of the importance of the State. « * * * The Premier of Victoria, the Hon. J. Allan, Visited the Exhibition this afternoon, and was received by the directors. Mr Allan expressed his pleasure and appreciation of the great achievement. Another visitor of note this afternoon was Sir Maynard Hedstrom, 1£.8., M.L.C., of Suva.
