, I ' Elcnora Duse, who died on April 21, 1924, at the ape of sixty-four, loft £B,GUO. The will of the great Italian tragedienne, which lias just been proved in Now York, shows that she tiled a comparatively poor woman. She lost practically all her fortune during the war, says the ‘ Morning Post.’ Most of her money had been invested in Austrian securities in the days when Germany, Austria, and Italy were hound together in the Triple Alliance, which toll to pieces when Italy joined the Allies in 1915. Despite hex losses she continued to give away large snrna to war charities. Duse left the whole of her estate to her daughter, Sirs Enrichetto Bullough, of Cambridge, except for the furniture in her house at Asolo in Italy, which she bequeathed to lier old friend, Miss Katherine Onslow, of Emsworth. Hampshire. Charlotte Mignon Crabtree (“Lotta”),who died’in Boston (CBS.A.) in September last year, left what is probably the. largest fortune ever possessed by a'n actor or actress, but she did not obtain it by her stage work, for in her later years—she retired in 1891—she lived in an hotel which she owned. First reported to be £400,000, her fortune was later stated to bo double that amount. Sir Charles Wyndham lemt £197,035, and J. C. Williamson, the Australian manager and actor, £193,038. Garrick left £120,000. ■ Other amounts left by players were:—Sir George Alexander, £90,072; J. L. Toole, £79,984; Anna Hold. £71,405: W. H. Kendal, £66,251; Sir Herbert Tree, £44,085; Mrs Siddons. £35,000: Sir Henry Irving, £20,527; Sir Charles Hawtrly, £1,180; Laurence Irving, £937; Hermann Y ezin, £l3B. j
