WIRTHS’ CIRCUS
During bi.s recent tour of America. Mr Philip Wirth proved himself one of the greatest advertisers of Australia th;ii Ha l been seen ami heard in the “bootleggers’ paradise” for years. A “ big ” Australian in every sense of the word, Mr Wirtii has never been backward in telling the world that there, is no place, like the sunny Commonwealth. Horn in Australia, lie has always regarded ins native country as one of illimitable opportunities, and years of successful struggling to make the most ol these opportunities have resulted in his attaining his proud position m the amusement-providing world today. And now, by way of returning the compliment to the country of which ho thinks so much, ho loses _no opening, however small, of _ letting others know what a lino place it is. It was in this way that ho was able to overcome the scruples of several artists in America, who, drawing the huge salaries to which they were entitled by ’their world-wide reputations, were somewhat dubious about coming all the way to Australia. The money they were offered was tempting enough, but only those who have had it to do know what a task it is io induce performers to “ hit flie long, long trail for Australia.” However, acting the part of an advertising agent for Australia in a manner that would turn the migration authorities at Australia House in London green with envy, Mr Mirth was able to satisfy the doubling ones that they wore coming to a fine place—in fact, the finest place of all. Some of the marvellous acts ho secured (all coming to Dunedin) are Torelli’s Circus (performing dogs, monkeys, mules, ponies), Captain Rett’s 'seals, dogs, monkeys, and bantam roosters, Honey Sisters, Miss Eileen Mav (the lady elephant trainerl. The eirons will open in Dunedin on Monday, December 21. The location is off the Main Highway, near the Exhibition.
