EIGHT-BALL OVER CONFLKTING VERSIONS. Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, October L (Received October 5, at 10 a.m.) A discussion was caused by the conflicting versions cabled irom Australia regarding the Board of Control's decision to retain the eight-ball over. One version, which is generally accepted, indicates that the decision applies only to test matches in Australia. Another'merely says: “Tito board decided that the eight-ball over should bo retained for tost matches.” Commenting on the latter, which permits the deduction that it applies to matches in England, leading cricketers said they hoped that it was untrue. Lord Harris declared: “ If it be true, I am afraid, speaking personally, that wc cannot meet our Australian friends’ request,”—A. and N.Z. Gable.
