OTAGO KOTOR GLOB’S PROGRESS NOTABLE ANNUAL MEETING. Its first animal meeting in the new club rooms, held on Saturday evening. marked a notable stage in the progress of the Otago Motor Club, for the report showed there was a substantial credit balance, in spito of tho fact that the additional expenditure of occupying and furnishing the rooms had had to be met. A big attendance of members was presided over by the president (Mr A. TV Ansell). THE PRESIDENT’S REVIEW. A review of the work of tho executive and the activities of the club during the year was then presented by the president in a brief address. The work the club bad done in regard to the North road, be said, had been the subject of many negotiations which bad resulted in the road to Waitali being declared a Government road, provided £l,lOO could bo raised by motorists. Tho subscriptions to that fund bad boon willingly given, and thanks were due to the committee which, under Mr Halliday, bad been responsible for tho raising of the money. The Prime Minister (Hon. J. G. Coates) was also to be thanked for the state of tho road. The President complimented the Prime Minister upon bavlna the highways legislation placed on the Statute Book. Nobody pretended, lie added, that this legislation was tho “ last word,” but it was the foundation, and would go a long way towards stimulating the progress of tho country. Good roads helped all sections of -.the community. Regarding the IVaitati road, he wished to appeal to members, however, to desist from speeding over tho road. The club bad received many complaints. _lf the motorists did not exorcise discretion somebody would have to impose a speed limit, which might be irksome. The Leitli-Waitati road, be added, was being completed, and when it was finished they would have one of_ the finest “round trips” in the province. The club bad played a, large part, but be wished to thank the City Council for its assistance, not only on this occasion, but also in other directions, _on the St. Clair road and in the city, among other instances. There were some roads in the city of which motorists had reason to be proud. In an appeal to motorists, in view of tho influx that would characterise the incidence of the Exhibit on, to aim at the object of having no accidents during that busy period, tho president asked members to carefully study the signals, and so make it fairly certain that as far as Dunedin motorists were concerned there would ho no accidents during tho Exhibition period. One direction in which he wished motorists to exercise special care was that no motor should pass a stationary car. Tie know it was allowed by the law, hut passing standing ears was a dangerous practice, and ho hoped motorists would exorcise care iu that respect. The President also spoke of the club’s attitude on the question of the dimming of lights, which, lie said, was regarded as tho practice of members of the club when other traffic was approaching. Motorists should also have their brakes tested. Speaking of tho club's investigations info tho ouestion of danger signals, the President expressed the thanks of the club for the work Mr M'Georgc had performed in this respect. Mr Passmore was also to ho thanked for the manner in which ho bad produced the year hooks. The President concluded by appealing for a greater membership, which, he said, was justified by the good work the clidi had alreadv done. Mr 11. Halliday seconded tho motion, and paid a tribute In the work the president had performed during the rear in the interests of the club.

Wright, in supporting Ihc motion, spoke of the campaign the club had in view lor semiring new members, and warned members that as motorists who did no! have on their windshields the Idlers “ 0.M.C.” would he assailed by enl linsiasfic workers for an increased membership, members would ho well advised to apply to tho secretary for the placards. Ho also slated that, the chib intended to publish a %uido hook. After further dismission tho report ami balance-sheet were adopted.
