SHEEPISH LOVERS

COURTING COUPLES IN COURT. Thirtv courting couples were summoned at Waltham Abbey Police Court for damaging growing grass in a _ field belonging to Samuel Young, of Ainslie Wood -3 Farm, Chingford. The farmer said the couples wore all lying about in the field, and when be called to them they rose up like mushrooms. Police-sergeant Wood said all he could see above the grass were girls’ hats. When he called, the couples rose sheepishly from all parts of the field, and before be bad finished taking names the couples were hanging round his neck. Each defendant was fined 10s, the men paying the girls’ fines as wqil as their own. The couples left tho court arm-in-arm, amid subdued applause.
