STELLA MURRAY RECITAL
A NEW ZEALAND CONTRALTO. Stella Murray won golden opinions during her stay in England. Critics and audiences were unanimously impressed, and most favorably so, with her voice and her artistic interpretations. She gave a large number of recitals in London and the cities of the provinces,, ami she was everywhere received with tho most iiatiering evidences of appreciation. Stella Murray’s gift of song was enriched and developed by study and experience, and she achieved tho success which comes only to those who are in tho front ranks of tho concert performers of the great metropolis. Writing of one of her London concerts, ‘ The Times ’ critic said:—“Despite tho handicap of a heavy eold and a foggy atmosphere, Stella Murray gave a most successful song recital at the yEolian Hall last Thursday night. We knew her already for tho possessor of a contralto voice exceptionally fine in quality and equally rich in tone throughout its compass, but wo had not previously heard her undergo the test of singing great music. She proved an excellent interpreter of Wolf, whose ‘Como. Mary, Take Comfort ’ (Stella Murray sung throughout in English, a proceeding justified by her unusually clear diction), stood out above everything else on the programme, with Pergolesi’s ‘Sun Above Me ’as a good second. Vie look forward to hearing Stella Murray again, when she has not to contend to a physical disadvantage.” Stella Murray is assisted by Harold Beck (’cellist) and Harold Whittle (accompanist). The Dunedin recital wfil be given in His Majesty’s Theatre tomorrow night. Day sale tickets are on sale, at the Geyser, and the box plan is at Tho Bristol.
