CHARITY GUP TO NORTHERN SEACLIFF WINS KNOCK-OUT, (JLD BOYS THE JUNIOR CUP. The Soccer season ended on Saturday at Culling Park in miserable weather. The football seen by the few score spectators was not of a high order.' KNOCK-OUT FINAL. The better game of the two was that between Mornington and Seacliff. The teams were fairly evenly matched. Seacliff played Fotheriugham, Smith, and Phillip in place of Anderson, Hanlin, and Simmons. Dickel took Braithwaite’s place in the Mornington team. Mornington had the better of the early exchanges, and Catto centred, Lowdeu receiving a rebound from the post and goaling. Mornington 1, Seacliff 0. Later a Mornington forward drove the ball over the bar when ho had only the goalie to beat, and Hooper (loading a Seacliff attack) narrowly missed with a fine header. He goaled, however, soon afterwards. Seacliff 1, Mornington 1.
No score came in the speond spell, which was evenly contested. Extra time was played, and the play brightened up. A minute or two before time Dickel gave a corner in attempting to head a high centre. .Th* Mornington men’s desperate efforts to turn the tables were without success, and the game (controlled by Mr A. Preston) ended: Seacliff ... 1 goal 1 corner Mornington 1 goal . THE CHARITY MATCH. Previous to the knock-out filial the winners of the first and second divisions »f the senior, grade (Northern and Southern respectively) played off for the cup presented to the association last year by the Chinese oi Dunedin. Southern had the better of the first half, but did not seem to bo able to finish, and ended the spell 1 goal down. M'Tavish and M'Cormack goaled for Northern and Jones for Southern. Early in the second spell a Southern back gave a penalty kick, and Ruddiman scored. Then Ruddiman Scored again, and M’Tavish added another, the game ending: Northern ... 6 Southern 1 Mr W. Sudden was the referee. Northern hold both the Senior Cup and the Charity Cup. SECOND GRADE FINAL. High School Old Boys prevailed against Y.M.O.A. in the final game of the second grade, played at Littlebourne. The score was, 3 goals to 2. Old Boys thus retain the Junior Cup for another year. This was the third occasion during the season that these two teams have met, Old Boys on the previous two occasions having won d to 3 and 2 to 0.
The ground was not in good condition, yet a fast, exciting contest resulted. In the first spell a passing rush by Old Boys resulted in F. Grant goaling. Y.MX’.A. responded with a good goal from the left wing, after a fine centre from Cullen. A good chance to score from a breakaway was missed later by Cullen. During this spell Old Boys did most of tho attacking. Wills (in goal for Y.M.C.A.) saved again and again. On changing over the game was very oven. Old Boys, however, scored twice, JL Grant netting both. The first was from a scramble in which tho goalie lost the ball, and the second as tho result of a good pass from tho right. Y.M.C.A. then took a. hand, and had the Old Bovs busily defending. Stubbs gained YJVI.C.A.’s second goal alter receiving the ball near halfway. Mr loggers was the referee.
