Tlio Dunedin Hibernian Social Club rooms were crowded on Thursday last, the occasion being a six-a-sido billiard tournament between the team from St. Joseph’s Hibernian Social Chib and a team from St. Patrick's Hibernian Social Club, in which St. Joseph's team won by 125 points. Mr A. Gillick (president of the St. Joseph’s Club) welcomed the visitors, and said ha hoped that this would bo the forerunner of very many pleasant evenings spout by the clubs, Mr Leo Marlow, on behalf of St. Patrick's Club (South Dunedin), thanked St. Joseph's Club for the excellent evening. The following wore .the scores of the billiard tournament (St. Joseph’s names first) : —E. Boherns 100 v. J, M'Encary 83, E. Brown 100 v. E. M’llroy 63; A. Gillick 90 v. Harty 100, A. Sullivan 90 v.- Leo Marlow 100, J. Marlow, jun., 100 v. F. Mullins 30, R. J. •Gillick 100 v. E. Fay 79. Totals; St. Joseph’s 680, St. Patrick’s <155., Mr J. Ryan acted as official scorer and referee.

Largo congregations worshipped in St. Andrew’s Church yesterday, when services were hold again in tho church after having boon conducted for two months in tho Waddell Hall, Carroll street. During that time tho church has been very thoroughly renovated within, and the results of the work that has been carried out were much appreciated yesterday. The whole of the walls and pillars have been painted a pale cream, the ceiling has been revarnished, the seats freshly stained, tho organ painted in keeping with the general color scheme, old gas fittings removed, and improved electric lighting installed, a new colored window erected pn tho vestibule, which, with tho choir room and vestry, have boon refurnished and decorated. The Rev. H. Maclean conducted an impressive communion service in tho morning, preaching from Hebrews xiii., 12-13. The sacrament was also dispensed at the close of tho evening service. The fortnightly meeting of the Northeast Valley Debating Society was held in tho Y.W.B.C. Hall. The subject for discussion was ‘ Ls Much of Our Presentday Reading Just a ’Waste of Time?’ Tho affirmative side was led by Miss C. Turner, and supported by Miss R. Mitchell; while the negative side was led by Miss D. Davis and Miss Rodgers. The judges (Mr S. M'Laron and Mr S. Murray) decided in favor of tho negative side. Mr Murray said that there was a very narrow margin between the speakers. The tendency had been to revert to the older literature and to quote Dickens, etc. Supper was handed round.
