WHAT A MOUSE DID
HUNDRED IDLE FACTORIES. A mouse was blamed for cutting off the supply of electricity to more than 100 Hammersmith factories recently. A short circuit fused the main switch, causing an explosion, which was followed by a fire. “ A mouse running across the cables may have set up the short circuit,” said an official of the power station- “ Four of our workmen were overcome by fumes from the burning rubber, but the fire was extinguished before the arrival of the brigade.” Some factories closed for the day; others resumed work after nearly three hours’ idleness. In one case, five minutes after the employees had been sent home the power came on again.
