LUMP SUM FOR DOLE
AUSTRIAN MIGRATION PLAN, PROPOSED COLONY IN BRAZIL. Capitalisation of the “dole” is suggested as the financial basis for an emigration project that has been launched in Austria, It is proposed that 500 families emigrate en masso to Brazil, there to found l colony on communal lines. At a meeting of those concerned the president or the society into which they have formed themselves said it was proposed that the emigrants should comprise practitioners of all crafts and professions necessary; to a self-contained agrarian colony, including doctors and teachers. The intending emigrants are nearly all unemployed at present. Their project is that, by capitalising the doles they now receive, the State should advance a sufficient sum to pay the passages to South America, buy machinery, and finance the colony until the first harvest. A committee has already entered into discussion wit hthe Emigration Ministry of the Government, and is working out financial details for submission to the Treasury.
