POPULAR POSTAL OFFICER

ERESENTATION TO MR G. W. BROWN. Mr G. W. Brown, who has filled tho position of postmaster in Lawrence during the past four years, was on Monday afternoon, prior to his leaving for Jfairlio, to which office he has been promoted, presented with a tangible token of the citizens' appreciation of the manner in which he had carried out his official duties during his term in, Law\ence. The Mayor (Mr J. K. Simpson), who presided, apologised for tho absence of several prominent citizens. In the departure of Mr Brown they were losing a good officer, but they were glad to hear of his well-won promotion. In asking his acceptance of a wallet containing a sum of money for _ him to purchase a suitable gift to remind both him and Mrs Brown of Lawrence, the mayor paid a tribute to Mr Brown’s work as a public officer, as well as to the splendid assistance he, along witn Mrs Brown, Miss Nessie, and Master lan Brown, had at ail times given to the musical and sopial life of Lawrence. „

Messrs J. B. M'Kinlay, R. C. Moore, J. Norrie, and D. MTntosh, sen., also added their testimony to the sterling worth of the departing guests. Mr and Mrs Brown and family were also the recipients of a Kaiapoi travelling rug from the Bowling Club, a travelling bag from the postal staff, and a cheque from sporting friends, as well as a Doulton salad bowl and forks for Mrs Brown and gifts for Miss Nessie Brown and Master lan Brown.
