CAKE AND CANDY FAIR

A very successful function was held in the Druids’ Hall, Ravonsbourne, on Thursday afternoon and evening. It was organised by the local Ladies” Guild of the Methodist Church in aid of church funds. The hall was well filled in the afternoon and crowded in the evening, and all the stalls did brisk business during the two sessions. Mrs E. O. Blamires declared the sale open, and complimented the ladies on the splendid array of gifts. Mr J. W. Hutton and Mrs W. M. Roberts judged the edibles in the cooking competitions, for which there were very full entries. Mrs M'Farlane secured the champion prize with three firsts and three seconds, Mrs Keys and Mrs Hanvey being the,runners-up. At the evening session Rev. E. O. Blamires expressed regret that sickness prevented the mayor, Sir H. E. Holier, from presiding, and conveyed his greetings. Thanks were expressed to the various donors, stallholders, and workers, also to the parformers at the evening concert. Slessrs W. Simpson, Westwood, Keys (2), Ivin Davidson, and Miss M. Davidson contributed items, and Mrs M‘lvor omciated as accompanist. The following ladies were actively attending at tho stalls: —Mesdames Thornicroft, Milnes,' Leech, Christensen, Hanvey, Cooper (secretary), D. Petrie, W. Cerry, Dakers. Jamieson, White, Westwood, and Simpson, and were assisted by Messrs Jamieson, Crosbio, Simpson, and othor young helpers. Interesting and amusing competitions created much interest.
