THE BLESSED OVERFLOW
Eardlcy Turner, well known in Australia and New Zealand, contributes the following to the London ‘ Stage ’;— Jones ran a drama-house with plays Bedroomy, thrilling, gory; They paid until the picture craze Robbed him of cash and glory. Then came a parlous time, when ha Moaned his depleted treasury. What could he do to draw the crowd? How boat the opposition? Fate might have heard him cry aloud And pitied his condition. Yet luck seemed harder than before— A picture palace came next doorl “My funeral,” cried Jones, “no less This means! Last act! Quick curtain I” But—paraphrasing “ G.B.S.”— You never can be certain. The pictures opened, and the show Was rushed. Jones got their overflow! He lives on overflows since then; His house each night they cram it. The stream of opposition—when Most managers would dam it— Jones blesses, and will oft allude To “overflowing gratitude ’’ 1
