WAGON DERAILED

NORTH EXPRESS DELAYED The mixed train which left Dunedin for Oamaru at 2.56 p.m. yesterday was being run into Kartigi siding to allow tho express from the north to pass, when Porter Kirkwood was struck by a, piece of timber on one of tho passing trucks, this causing him to let go the points lever, with the result that, a bogie double roadside wagon was derailed and a carriage overturned. As a consequence the line was blocked, and the express did not leave Kartigi till 9.44. arriving in Dunedin at JJ.47, or three hours and two minutes behind time. Knowing that the train would not he at Dunedin till the ordinary tramcars had ceased running, Mr K. G. Chambers (station master) rang up the tramways manager (Mr W. 11. Mackenzie) , wlio arranged for ears to run on the principal routes-for the convenience of the delayed passengers. The mixed train that was delayed at Kartigi reached Oamaru at midnight. Nobody was injured by the derailing; nor was tho track damaged.
