FORBURY TROTTING RACES

A DELIGHTFULLY SOCIABLE MEETING The American sailors formed an appreciable section of the large crowd at Forbury yesterday afternoon, and they seemed to thoroughly enjoy themselves. It was a very pleasant day’s sport. The sum of £23,5461 was put through the totalisators, malting £42,936 for the meeting. Concluding results: — ADMIRAL’S HANDICAP (Harness), SOOsovs; second 100, third SO. 2in. 1— F. C. Hogarth’s Harold Burwood (Harold Dillon —Pride of Burwood), 12yds (.1. H. Wilson) 1 3—G. W. Loganwood passed Pearlie Chiracs in the first furlong. PearHe Chimes went wide into the hack stretch. Brutus commenced to tail off after six furlongs, and Pearlie Chimes was done three furlongs from homo. Loganwood turned into the straight ahead of Harold Burwood, but the latter came on steadily and won by a length, third 50yds away. Time, 4min 35 4-sscc. KENTUCKY HANDICAP (Harness),

Aitchison’s Merry Bingen, 36yds (Owner) ... 3 Others: 4 Swiftbino 24yds, 6 Bonny Spec 60yds, and 1 Lazarus 96yds. Swiftbino broke in the first furlong and went to the rear. Ingle Bingen led from Merry Bingen, Money Spider next. After going seven furlongs Merry Bingen broke, and Money Spider drew near to fugle Bingen. These two were together with a lap to go. MoneySpider drew ahead two and a-half furlongs from home, and won easing up by six lengths, a neck between second and third, Bonny Spec fourth, then Lazarus. Time, 4min 43sec.

MARYLAND HANDICAP (Harness), 250.50v5; second 50, third 25. 1m of. 1— L. Clarke’s Pearl Coronado (Yan Coronado—Cast Pearl), scr (J. Eraser, jun.) 1 C—W. Quirk’s Ivy Audubon, 12yds ' (A. Oakland lingered at tho post. Pearl Coronado flew out at once, leading Silver Band and Ivy Audubon. Rebel and Cottage Girl lost positions by mixing the gait. Pearl Coronado held tho lead firmly, and Ivy Audubon was equally steady in second place all the rest of the way, the only question being tho last half-mile as to whether Rebel would catch one or both, hut he broke again near the home turn, and the favorite won by nearly four lengths, Ivy Audubon a length in front of Transport, Cottage Girl and Wairua. next. Time, 3miu 47 2-sscc.

ARIZONA HANDICAP (Harness), SOOsovs; second 60, third 3(J. ]m. 1— V. Alborn’s Golden Devon (Great Audubon Lady Devon), 36yds (Owner) ... 1 4.—S. Hawthorne’s Dillon Wilkes, 36yds (A. Butterfield) ... 2 2A. Fleming’s Double Event. 12yds (Owner) 3

Others: 3 Peter King scr, S Harewood 12yds, 6 Irish Whispers 21yds. 7 Coldwatcr 21yds, 5 Pcarlie Chimes 60yds.

Double Event hesitated. Peter King moved off smartly, but broke, leaving Double Event in the lead after going three furlongs. Golden Devon got into second place with about half a, mile.lo go, and at tho three furlongs flew past, Dillon Wilkes following. In the race up the homo stretch Golden Devon plainly had tlio result sale, and he won, easing up, by three lengths, .Double .Event five lengths further hack, then Pearlio Chimes and Cold wafer. Time, 2niin 13 2-ssoe. NOTES BY OLD IDENTITY. The Virginia. Handicap was a, slow race. Real Lady, who showed a hit of speed ou tho first day, could not got going properly, and four of tho others skipped or broke. Alas ter Peter’s steadiness brought him home. I am not as sure as some .seem to be that Alor; pinza. R. would have won the Idaho Handicap if she had kept straight. Her swerve out was abreast of the grand stand, and Spring Note was going very strongly at the moment. It seemed to me that the swerve was by the ina.ro herself, not caused by the whip. Jardon had tho whip over her, hut 1. don’t think it had touched her wlimi she ran rtdeways and almost bumped Spring Nolo.

The dividend of I lie meeting was earned by Lady Embrace when she won the Pennsylvania Handicap. She won it in good style, having In cut down Van Director and Deshorough ami then stall off a challenge by Golden Devon, wlio, by the way, would probably have won if brought a little earlier.

Burnie made the AleuipLis Handicap a. poor race. lie tonic the lead alter three furlongs and stayed I here. Swiftbine showed a. hit of his real pace in the middle Mages. Nelson APKiuney trotted steadily, hut had tu spurt. Brutus trotted in the Admiral’s Handicap as if he was not so well as he looks. AVilsou drove Harold Bnnvood confidently, as though sure of passing Logamvood when he pleased, and he did so just below tho distance, winning an unexciting race by a length. All hut Ingle Bingen and Aloney Spider broke in tlie Kentucky Handicap, Lazarus going up three times and Merry Bingen twice. APLcnnan drove Aloney Spider with nice judgment, and it was a. race calling for nice, judgment on his part, •seeing; that lie was outside of Ingle Bingen all the, way. Pearl Coronado went quite steady in the Alaryln.ini Handicap after getting out well."and was never headed. Rebel would certainly have been in the money if he had not broken, and Cottage Girl’s good perionnanco in the lasi; half-mile shows that she, too. would have been thereabouts hut for having to make up so much ground owing to a couple o! early breaks. . Tho shades of night, wore lulling last 3S Golden Devon won the last race. Ho passed Peter King as though that horse was a post and won by himsoll.
