What is called the world’s finest pearl, a lustrous, peacock-green gem nearly three-quarters of an inch in diameter and weighing almost 30 carats, has been_ found off one of the Gambier Islands, in the'South Pacific Ocean, by an 18-year-old native boy diver, says ‘ Popular Mechanics.’ He parted with it for a small fortune, and the buyer is said to have been offered £IO,OOO for the treasure. It is not an uncommon occurrence for tho fishermen to go out in their little canoes in the morning and return in the evening rich, according to their standards.
