NOVICE TOURNAMENT A novice tournament under the auspices of the Otago Boxing Association was held in the South Dunedin Town Hall last evening. Mr F. J. Campbell was master of ceremonies, and Mr J. Kilmartin referee. All the contests except the paper-weight were three rounds of three minutes. The paperweight was three two-minute rounds. "PAPER-WEIGHTS. J. Richmond 5.13 beat P, H. Winter 7.5. Notwithstanding the difference iu weights, Richmond always had his opponent in trouble, and connected with a good left. In the last round Richmond again got home with his handy left, and dodged several wild swipes. BANTAM-WEIGHTS. F. Wills 8.1 beat H. M‘Gregor 7.13. M'Gregor opened with great gusto, leading with bis left and coming across with his right. Halfway through the round Wills went to the floor for four, but he improved considerably at the end of the round. M'Gregor continued to box confidently, but Wills staggered his opponent with lefts to the face and heavy right swings. Wills rained homo a full battery or blows m the last round, though M'Gregor stood up to him nobly. W. M'Alevey 8.2 beat T. Spence 8.1. Spence walked into some beautiful straight lefts and right swings, and the fight was stopped in the first round. LIGHT-WEIGHTS. B. Emree 9.8 beat G. Davies 9-13, Davies showed ; up well in the first round, but Emree always held the advantage in the infighting. Davies walked into a short right boob early in the round, Emree piling on the points. D. J. Crighton 9.7 beat R. James 9.11. Crighton had the advantage in the first round, and drove bis opponent round the ring jn the second; but James connected with five straight lefts in succession.' In thejast round James scored with his left, but his opponent got home with pome nice right swings, and then drove him to the ropes. James had to smother to save himself, Crighton dashing in with tremendous vigor, J. Collins 9.7 beat W. Robson 9,6. Collins is an unorthodox boxer, swinging in left apd right swings in quick succession. Robson was counted out in the first round. H. Franks 9.11 beat H. Drew 9.8. Halfway through the second round Drew got a blow in the solar plexus, and Franks tried to get in a knockout. Drew, came to light with a nice straight left, but his blows lacked weight. There was not much between them at the finish. —Semi-finals.— Franks beat Emree. This was a poor contest, the boxing lacking finish, and was devoid of incident.

Collins beat Crighton. Collins outboxed his opponent right from the start. He had Crighton beaten in the second round, but he was content to score with gentle taps. Tho winner gave the best exhibition of tho evening. The final will be decided to-morrow, FEATHER-WEIGHTS.

T. E. Walker 8.13 beat J. Webber 8.9. Walker was mncb more scientific than bis opponent, who, however, fought very placidly, though without method. J. Bowie 9.0 beat 11. Horne 8.8.

Bowie had no difficulty in getting home with some telling straight lefts and light- swings in the first round, though bis rather quizzical tactics created much amusement. _ Horne made strenuous efforts to win in the last round, but Bowie got home with his straignt left. MIDDLE-WEIGHTS. 0. M'Ara 10.12 beat 11. M. Black 11.1. , . , M'Ara immediately got to work with his right swing, but Black belted his opponent’s nose in the second round to good effect. In the last round M'Ara staggered Black with a heavy right to the head, and shortly after B|/ick was down for eight from a similar blow. G. Davidson 11.0 beat J. O’Brien This was all over early in the first round, Davidson swing In a righthander to the jaw.

' MACDONALD BEATS PARKER. ' In the professional fifteen-round contest at Christchurch last night for a nurse of £l5O, Lachie Macdonald (Dunedin) defeated Eddie Parker (Hastings) on points. The fight was very even till the last round, when Parker was down for Sseo.
