RECEIVING KING'S REPRESENTATIVE
IMPRESSIVE CEREMONIAL [Peb United Peeks Association.] WELLINGTON, August 11, During the afternoon Admiral Coontz and his officers left Pipitea wharf in order to pay an official call on His Excellency the Governor-General (Sir Charles Fergusson) at Government House. Tho guard of honor was formed by fifty men of the 15th Battery, under the command of Captain J. Abel and Lieutenant Williamson. The Artillery Band was also in attendance and played suitable musio as the admiral and his officers left the ship. Admiral Coontz proceeded to Government House by car., and the proceedings were quite format, the whole visit occupying only a few minutes.
Tho return call of the Governor-Gen-eral was marked by an interesting ceremonial on board the Seattle. His Excellency was accompanied by Major Haviland and Captain Vernon Wentworth. He was received on the quarterdock by Admiral Coontz, who was accompanied by Rear-admiral Cole (his clerk of staff), Rear-admiral R. H. Leigh, Rear-admiral H. J. v Ziegemeir '.of the Pennsylvania), Rear-admiral T. P. Magrudor (of the Richmond), and other officers. As the Governor-General stepped on to the quarter-deck tho guards of marines presented arms. He was then received hy Admiral Coontz, and as he left the ship after a few minutes’ conversation a salute of nineteen guns was fired.
