NO CALL FOR LABOR

TROUBLE AT WANGANUI [Per United Press Association.) WANGANUI, July 29. When a, call for labor was made this morning to load the liner Ruapehu in the roadstead there was no response from the watersiders. It is understood that the dispute arose over the non-payment of overtime rates demanded by local stevedores in respect to the liner Tekoa which recently loaded hero. It appears that on that occasion about fifty men worked throe hours’ overtime and claimed 9s fid per hour. It was pointed out that the claim was outside the award, and the company refused payment. The matter has been referred to the National Dispute Committee. A settlement is expected to-day. The coastal vessels Breeze and Kapiti are also affected by the dispute, and are at present idle.
