Tho Holmdalc, which sailed yesterday from Oamaru, Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, and Wanganui, will bo overhauled on the Wellington patent slip next week. Tho Kawatir sailed to-day for Oaraaru and Tiniaru to discharge the balance of her Newcastle coal. The Ripa is duo to-morrow morning from Wanganui. She is to sail in tho evening for Tiniaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, find Wanganui. The Katoa, due to leave Auckland on Thursday, for Dunedin via ports, should arrive hero on August 6. The Wiliaston has been delayed at Napier by bad weather, and is now listed to leave on Friday for Lyttelton, Timaru, and Dunedin. Tho Kamo will leave Napier on Friday for Dunedin direct. She should airivo on Sunday, and sail on Monday for Napier and Gisborne via ports. 'The Corinmi left Wellington at^b. 3') last evening for Dunedin to disco urge and load general cargo. The vessel is fixed to arrive to-morrow morning, and to sail in tho evening for Oamaru, Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, Nelson, and New PJymouth. Tho Wannka is expected to sail at 10 p.m. for Oamaru. Timaru. and Lyttelton, thence Wellington, Napier, Gisborne, and Auckland. 'tho Kaituna, lo arrive from Auckland and Melbourne at 7 a.m. to-mor-row, is scheduled to sail on Friday for Lyttelton, 'Wellington, New Plymouth, and Auckland. The New Zealand Shipping Company’s Ruahino is timed to leave Sonthnmtpon on July 31 Inr Wellington and Auckland via Curacao and Panama, with passengers ami care-). THE FERRY SERVICE. The Mararoa, from AVellington, arrived at Lyttelton at 7.40 a.m. today. and passengers and mails connected with the 12.20 p.m. express. CHARTERED MABIYO. The C. and D. Line's chartered steamer Alaimyo leit Now York on July 22 with general cargo and case oil for discharge at Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin, Fremantle, and Runbury. She, is duo at this port about September 12. The Alaimyo is owned by Messrs T. and J. Brocklebank, Limited, and is registered, at Newcastle. She was built at Port Glasgow in 1918, and her tonnage is 0,289 gross. EASTERN CANADIAN SERVICE. The New Zealand Shipping Company advises as under :—■ Benicia, from Sydney (C. 8.), Montreal, New York, and Newport News, for Auckland. AVellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin, Bluff, and Sydney, is due at Auckland in tho second week August. ' Sally Maersk, from Sydney /C. 8.) and Montreal for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin, arrived at Montreal on July 24. PITCAIRN ISLAND NOT ISOLATED. I ' During last year seventy-two vessels stopped at Pitcairn Island. The oncelonely outpost is now robbed of its isolation, and the inhabitants are kept well informed of the happenings in various parts of the world. On Juno 20 there were no fewer than three liners stopped off Pitcairn. The vessels were tho Corinthic, en route from Wellington to London, the lonic, bound from London to AVellington, and tho Boon holm, from Montreal, on her way to Auckland. In the motor ship Santos, which was completed at Kockums Yard, Mahno, in May, is installed the first M.A.N.typo Diesel machinery, to be built under license in Sweden. The vessel, therefore, attracted considerable technical interest. The Santos is built to the highest class at Lloyd’s, and tho following arc the leading details: — Length between perpendiculars, 381 ft; beam, 51,3 ft; depth, 37.2 ft; deadweight capacity, 6.G00 tons. The two engines arc each designed to develop 1,300 i.h.p. when running at 130 r.p.m., having six cylinders 23 ]-I.6in bore and 39 3-Hin stroke. They are of the normal _ four-stroke single-acting M..A.N. _ design, and give a service speed of approximately 111 knots. On the full-speed trials tho engines developed a total of 3,000 i.h.p., and the maximum speed attained Was 12.55 knots. The engine room is a little aft of amidships, and above it are arranged the deckhouses. On the shelter dock is the officers’ accommodation, together with a large saloon and four passenger cabins, each with two berths. Oil the boat deck is an owner’s cabin, and that for the master.
