The fortnightly meeting of Court St. Andrews. A.0.F., was hold in the Oddfellows’ Hall, Caversham, C.I?. Pro. A. Love presiding. Official visits were received from Courts Pride of Dunedin and Excelsior. T.P.C.R. llro. 'Hughes welcomed the visitors and gave the usual toast. The C.R. of Court Excelsior thanked the brethren for their kindly reception, as also did the C.R. of Court Pride of Dunedin. Four candidates wero initialed. Refreshments were handed round, and an enjoyable hour was spent in progressive euchre. The monthly meeting of the Northeast Valley United Band of Hope was held in the institute on Monday evening. Tiie president (.Mir Corlett) presided over a large attendance of children and friends. A most interesting address was given by Captain Taylor, of the Salvation Army. The following items were rendered -Chorus, Presbyterian children; solos, Mavis Smith and Olive Vona.ll; recitations, Louvain Macdondl, Gassie Grace, Ohven Rood, Bennett Turner, and Jim Moore. At tho close fourteen new members were enrolled. Tin; monthly meeting of the Northeast Valley branch or the W.C.T.U. was hold in the institute. The attendance was good Miss Kearney nave an interesting talk on her short experience among the Moon’s, showing the disastrous effects of alcohol on the Natives and how J,t was retarding the work of the missionaries Miss Kearney received a warm vote of thanks for her address. An appeal for funds for the expenses of the officers lo the district convention at Balclutlia was received. and it was agreed to give next innuH’s collection. The secretary intimated that she had written to the Prune Minister and Air Mnnro, M.P., asking them to support Mr Tsitt’s' Bible in Schools Bill. Miss Gray was appointed to represent (he union on the Creche Committee for the Exhibition, ill nas voted to the fund for furnishing tho creche. £5 was sent to tho ‘ Evening Star’ for the appeal for Mrs Millex-. £lO was voted to the Alliance fighting fund. A vote of sympathy with Mrs Sanders in her recent bereavement was passed.
