HOPES Of REFLOATING [Per United Press Association.] WHAKATANF,. July 27. The stranded ketch Fairborn was visited by Captain Hood, representative of the underwriters, on Saturday to investigate the possibilities ol refloating the vessel. As a result of his visit it has been decided to send a tug Ironi Auckland to try and haul the Fairburu off, and, if successful, to tow her to Auckland. Since stranding the Fairburn’s rudder has been earned away. [The ketch wont ashore on Ocean Beach, some distance from Whakatane, last Wednesday night. A stormy northern gale was blowing at the time, and tho captain kept on a northerly tack to avoid tho Whakatane Heads. A huge sea was running, and eventually the captain decided that tho host course was to run the vessel ashore through the breakers. As the vessel entered the breakers a mountainous sea almost submerged her, and the captain ordered the engineer out of tho engine room. . The engineer and the crow look to tho rigging, while tho captain remained at the wheel. It was a trying moment till the vessel got over tho last breaker and landed high and dry on the beach.]
