AVaikonaiii left Sydney on Saturday for Bluff, Dunedin, Lyttelton, and Timaru. The Karctu is now fixed to leave Melbourne to-morrow for Dcvonpnrfc (Tasmania), thence Bluff, Dunedin, Lyttelton, AA’ellington, and Auckland. THE FERRY SERVICE. The Afararoa, from AATllingtou, arrived at Lyttelton at 8.20 a.m. yesterday, and passengers and 'mails came south by the 8.50 a.m. express to-day. CANADIAN CHALLENGER ARRIVED. AA’ith cargo from Montreal, and via Panama, .Auckland. Napier, Wellington. Lyttelton, and Timaru. the Canadian Government sfcamer Canadian Challenger arrived yesterday afternoon, and berthed at the Victoria wliiiri, Tim ycasH is discharging Canadian cargo and loading dominion products for New York, Boston, and Montreal. She discharged (300 tons of general freight at Auckland. On her recent trip the Canadian Challenger cleared Alontrcal on May 27, and passed through Panama on Juno 10. Variable ■weather prevailed in the Pacific, and the steamer arrived afle.r a voyage devoid of incident. Captain AV. B. Annit is in command of the Challenger, which is to sail this ('veiling or to-morrow morning for Wellington and Auckland to complete loading.

P. AND 0. COMPANY'S FLEET. As a result of the submarine campaign during the war, the P. and O. Company lost many big vessels which formerly ran on the Australian service. Since the war the company lias been busily engaged building new vessels to fill th cplaces of those lost. It is announced that, with the departure of the new R.M.S. Chitral from London for Australia, it only remains for R.AI.S. Narknndn, scheduled to leave London on October 23. to he placed on the Australia run, to bring (he number of vessels in the P. and O. Company’s Australian fleet up to that in commission prior to the war. But although the new fleet will be of the same strength numerically of the pre-war fleet, the actual tonnage employed (151,844 lons gross) will he 44.079 tons greater than that of the, pre-war Herd.. During the war the company Inst, by enemy’ action, the following .steamers, which were employed in the Australian service:—Medina, Alaloja, Marmora, Moldavia, Mongolia, and Mooltan. The fleet now comprises:—The new steamers Mooltau and Alaloja, each 21,001) tons gloss; the new steamers Mongolia and Moldavia, each 16,000 tons gross; the steamers Naldera and Narkunda, cadi 16,000 tons gross; and the recentlyconstructed steamers Cathay, Comorin, and Chitral, .15,00!) tons cadi. All the steamers of the now fleet have been built subsequent to the war, and are fitted with the most up-to-date improvements, as regards both passengers’ accommodation and comfort, and the efficient carriage and handling of cargo.

DORSET RADIOS. The. Federal Company’s steamer Dorset, which was due at Auckland today from Liverpool, which port she left on June 13, lias wirelessed that she will arrive to-morrow morning. The vessel has cargo for Auckland, AVellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin, and New Plymouth. After discharge she will start loading for AVest (least ports of Great Britain at the Taranaki port, and proceed to fill up at AVanganni roadstead, Bind’, Lyttelton, Wellington, Napier, Gisborne, Opua, and Auckland. About September 36 the Dorset will leave the last-named port for Glasgow, Liverpool, Alancliostcr, and Avommmth. AVAIMANA ARRIVES. Fine weather throughout an uneventful voyage was experienced by the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Line steamer AVaimana., which arrived at Auckland from Loudon on July 16. The AVaimaua put out portion of her cargo before. proceeding to Napier, and arrived at Port Chalmers from the latter port early this afternoon to discharge 2,110(1 tons of cargo. Later the vessel will go to Bluff to complete discharge. The AVannana loaded all her cargo at London. and took her departure for New Zealand on June 5. She readied Colon on Juno 21, and passed through Panama_ the following day. The weather continued line until AVedncsday evening last, when a south-easterly gale was encountered. FIXED LIGHT PLACED. A fixed green light lias been placed at the corner of flic Ahctoria and Rattray street wharves at Dunedin, replacing the red light J'gormerly there. The light is 40ft above the wharf decking.
