THE SOCIAL CLUB The social club, which has only quite recently been formed in rooms m Moran's Buildings, Octagon, is proving a success, and the live interest taken •. in its affairs since it was established has given the promoters good encouragement to carry on with the movement. A billiard tournament was decided on at the last committee meeting, and that entries close to-morrow. It was also decided that an evening bo given to a debate, Tuesday, August 4, being the night chosen. The St. Joseph’s Branch, No. 73, of the Hibernian Society, held its fortnightly meeting in the club rooms, lilorau Buildings, Octagon, on Tuesday last, Bro. A. Gillick presiding. The sick visitors (Bros. 11. Borland, M . K. Simpson, and E. Lyng) having reported, the sick and other accounts were passed for payment. Correspondence from the Friendly Societies’ Council was dealt with. One new member was elected and three proposed for membership. Bro. Jl. A. Simpson, P.P., reported on the visit to St. Joseph’s (ladies’ branch), Port Chalmers, on Tuesday, the 14th inst., and spoke in high terms of the very pleasant evening that was tendered to the visitors on that occasion. Bro. Simpson was thanked for his report. Routine business was disposed of, after which a very pleasant evening was spent in billiards and cards, and many members took part Jn a question debate, which was very interesting.
