TILDEN’S AMATEUR STATUS. NEW YORK, July 24. Ho Said he had not received a summons to appear before the United States Lawn Tennis Association, and declared emphatically that ho had not violated the new player-writer rule through interviews recently referred to. Questioned whether ho would appear if summoned, ho said: “ If 1 happen to bo in New York at the.time I may attend the meeting, and 1 may not. 1 certainly will not leave any tournament to do so.” Tilden’s conduct has revived the whole controversy over the definition of amateur.
