MONTHLY MEETING OF COUNCIL The monthly mooting of the Taieri County Council was attended by Cr Charles Findlay (chairman), Crs A. Scott, J. N. Blair, F. Doherty, 11. A. Kompslioll, D. Mathesun, D. M'lntosh, and Walter Blackie. The Finance Committee reported that the receipts for the month had been £1,376 Ids 4d, and expenditure £1,379 9s Bd. The bank book showed a dr. balance of £1,988 5s 9d.—The report was adopted. The engineer’s report was adopted. The recommendation regarding a few loads of gravel on Wright’s road, Otokia Riding, was referred to the engineer and Cr MTutosh. The clerk was instructed to write the parties concerned regarding the removal of sand from the’hillside which supports the Fernhill road, and ask them to stop this: copies of the letter to ho sent to the owners of the land and the City Corporation. Regarding the proposed amendments to the Stone Quarries Act, the engineer explained the conditions to the council, and Cr Blackie was authorised to confer with the member for the district (Mr J. M. Dickson, M.'P.) when in Wellington _at an early date on main highways business. the Sanitary Inspector reported favorably on the slaughter-houses in the county, and on the piggeries at Green island. The Ranger reported having impounded twelve head of cuttle and two horses during the month. MAIN HIGHWAYS. The chairman of the District Council forwarded a circular from the Muni Highways Board in regard to road economics. —The letter was referred to Ur Blackie, wlio, with the dork, was appointed to represent the council at the eonlerenco in Wellington ot the executives of the various district councils. Cameron, On tram, drew _ the council’s attention to the bad’conditiou of the road from Rutherford's corner to tho property leased by the writer.—• The work is to be attended to after Bromner’s road has been finished. L. F. Gibbs, Brighton, drew attention to a had grade at tho foot of tho Noley road, rising off tho main road. Gravel could lie obtained quite close. —The engineer and member lor tho riding were instructed to attend to tho matter. , ,

W. J. Lindsay, Henley, asked permission to erect a swing gate on the road lino opposite his homestead, for tho purpose of keeping away stray stock.—The matter was referred to tho engineer for report. ■The request by J. A. White, Mosgicl, that two dislodged willows, which had been brought down by tho flood and were causing damage to the river bank at his property, be removed from the Silvcrstream, was agreed to.

M. Murdoch, Mosgicl, drew attention to tho breaks in the Silvcrstream bank adjoining her property. They had been caused by the 1923 flood .—The council decided that if every facility were offered by applicant to get tho material the work would bo done.

Four ratepayers of Factory road, Mosgiel, petitioned tho council about taking over Melville- Park from tho Borough of Mosgiel and including it in tho Taieri County.—Tho matter was hold over for one month. TENDERS.

Tenders were accepted ns follow; Contract No. 3, delivery of 300 tons of metal main highway No. L Green Inland to Conch and Horses’ Hill, James M’Kinnon; contract No. 4, carting out 400yds gravel at Silvcrstroam to Eicoarion road, Mr Marshal!; contract No. 5, delivery of 300 tons of metal, Allanton to Berwick road, M. Costello.

On the Chairman’s motion, the rates, as advertised, were struck for the year.
