BOWLING
LAWRENCE CLUB. The forty-first annual meeting of tho above club, which was held in the pavilion on Wednesday, was very largely' attended, and members are early showing keenness in the game. Some twelve new members were elected at the meeting. The president (Mr F. J. Martin), in moving the adoption of tho annual report and balance-sheet, congratulated the club on its prosperous position, and bore testimony to the work of the secretary (Mr G. IV. Brown) with .whom he had found it a pleasure to be associated. He (Air Brown) was a real live wire, and had done yeoman service in bringing about the club’s present position. Messrs A. Arthur and H. L. Darton also eulogised Air Brown’s work as secretary, and tho balance-sheet and report were unanimously adopted as read.
Tho annual report read: The year has been a very successful one in the w;ay of progress in tho financial position. Your committee recommended that the nine debentures of £lO each, which were invested in tho club, should be liquidated, and that in order to do this ; and with a view to eventually wiping out the club’s indebtedness, tho deeds of the club’s property were to be handed to the Bank of NewSouth "Wales by way of security on an overdraft not exceeding £9O, and with a stipulation that the overdraft was to be reduced by at least £lO per annum. This w-as done, and tho nine debentures have been paid. The club’s thanks are tendered to the debenture holders for their generosity' in forgoing interest. With a view' to reducing the overdraft and assisting tho funds, your president and lion, secretary organised a concert which took place on July 10. Tho function was a groat success in every respect. Tho receipts came to £3B Is Gel, and the expenditure to £7 11s 6d, leaving a not profit of £3O 10s, ■which will go a long way to reduce the expenditure incurred in effecting improvements to the green. To all performers and those asisting in any other manner at tho concert and the dance which was hold after it, the club tenders its very hearty thanks and appreciation. Tlio election of officers resulted in the re-election of Air F. J. Martin as president, Air H. F. Cooke as vicepresident, Air G. \V. Brown being again appointed secretary and treasurer. The club’s green has been levelled and top-dressed, and at tho present time is looking really well, and with the improvements made to the green and the influx of now members the club should be assured of a prosperous season.
