(Received July 25, at 9.15 a.m.) The late Captain Scott’s expedition ship Discovery, which has been practically rebuilt, lias sailed from Portsmouth to carry put research extending over two years and a-half in the Antarctic, principally in connection with whaling. After testing the echo and sounding instruments in the Bay of Biscay, she will convey stores to Tristan da Cunha, and will possibly call at Capo Town. She will arrive in South Georgia in October.—Reuter. [At Portsmouth on May 25 Mr L. S. Amery, the Secretary of State for the Dominions, formally inaugurated the Colonial Office’s scientific expedition to South Georgia by undocking the s.s. Discovery. She is* the same Discovery that carried Captain Scott to the Antarctic, but has been practically rebuilt for her new use. The expedition going out in the Discovery will spend three years in South Georgia and Ross Sea investigating the whaling industry on its scientific side, and is expected to have very important results.
