‘MARITANA ’
The outstanding feature of the music in ‘ Maritana, ’ is its fitness to the text. It emphasises the dramatic situation, intensifies the emotional expression, and throughout gives the appropriate atmosphere to the work. The selected principals for the opera,—Miss Meda Paine, Miss Mildred Gillions. Mr L. A. North, Mr Walter Mitchell—are all suited to the allotted parts, and the Lyric Club Choir should be equal to aiiy demands the choruses require (if past work is a guide) from the stirring opening chorus to the impressive ‘Angelas.’ Tonal beauty, balance, and blend should be marked features. An efficient orchestra will support the production, and intending patrons will be well advised to take’advantage of the booking facilities at The Bristol. Mr .1. T. Leech will direct the production, which takes place in His Majesty’s Theatre on July 28.
