MEETING OF DIRECTORS. The monthly meeting of directors of tho Y.M.C.A., presided over by Captain Snndstrum, was held on Tuesday evening. Correspondence was received from the City Council, intimating that no funds were available for a grant.
A letter was received from the National Committee of the Y.M.C.A., giving the dates for the, visit of Mr E N. Robinson, the world’s secretary for boys’ work, August 12 to 18. Tho suggested programme as drawn up was approved. The monthly reports were as follow: —The receipts totalled £499 Ids 7d, and expenditure £5-‘3l Cs Id. The treasurer pointed out that there were two or throe unusual expenditures in the month, which left tho overdraft £1,175 Ids 2d. Tho house statement showed that receipts were up to the usual standard, a slight margin of profit showing on the month. The General Secretary’s report mentioned the foi'theoming display, “Hullo, Dunedin!” and stated that a strong committee was at work to malic it a sucres-,. Tin' association had undertaken to lake a share in the hospitality work in connection with the visit of the American licet, and had since accepted responsibility for carrying out the rest room to lie set up in “ Q ” slied. The “Y ” Luncheon Club had been addressed during the month by Sir George Fenwick, Mr W. T. Wilson, and Dr Neulands. Two lectures in the “Home Hnilding Scries” by Messrs 11. S. Adams and E. Anscombe bad been very successful. Thursday night study group, led by the Rev. L. J. I!. Smith on ‘A Man's Religion ’ had been useful and fairly well attended. Residents’ service, Younger Men's Club, various social activities, “ big brother ” movement, meetings for prayer, tournaments, and compel it ions were all reported upon.
The hoys’ division report showed a, total financial membership of .‘s.‘is, there being twenty-five clubs in all round Christian citizenship training, with twenl v-nne loaders.
The Roys’ Work Secretary reported that definite charting was being undertaken, this being detailed interviews with individual boys, resulting in the all-round development being visualised on a chart. The report also referred to tho Lunch Club, forty boys in fontball teams, contributions to the Fiji mission fund, the forthcoming father and son banquet, and tho fact that Mr J. Ledgmvood’s assistance on the boys’ work stall' was proving of real value. The physical report outlined the basket ball. League, Rugby, and Association football. The report showed that 585 individual men and boys had used the gymnasium during the month. The Oainarn basket ball teams had recently visited Dunedin, when five games were played. This had been successful socially, as well as a physical venture. Mr Hanna concluded his report with special reference to tho work of the committee and its assistance in the arrangements for the forthcoming display, ‘Hullo, Dunedin!’ The general secretary was instructed to, write a note to Mr F. Arthur, chairman of tho Boys’ Work Committee, expressing sympathy in his illness.
