BURNSIDE STOCK SALES

PRICES NOT GREATLY CHANGED. Prices showed no great change at Burnside sales to-day. Sheep.—An entry of 2,307 head. The quality was very fair. There wore not a great many extra heavy wethers, but a number of good ponnings of crossbred wethers, and useful ewes, together with a sprinkling of fine wools, were in evidence. The sale opened well, but the demand dragged a bit. Prices went down about Is, but firmed again later. Generally the rates were much on a par with those of last week tor wethers, while ewes were a trifle firmer. Exporters were not buying. Extra prime heavy wethers went to 52s fid; jtrime heavy, 46s to 48s; prime, 33s bd to 44s 6d, Extra prime heavy ewes went to 44s 9d; prime, 32s 6d to 365: lighter, from 28s 6d.

Lambs.—An entry of 188 bead. The quality was only medium, there being many unfinished Jambs. The demand was quiet. Prime lambs made from 30s fid to 335; medium, 25s to 20s 6d; light and unfinished, los Cd to 23s 6d. Fat Cattle. —A yarding of 219 head. The quality showed improvement on that of last sale. There were some pens of medium heifers and cows, and some extra choice bullocks. The demand .at the opening was fairly strong, and prospects pointed to a fairly hot sale. Early in the sale prime bullocks were selling at from £l7 to £l9 12s fid; cows and heifers, £9 to £ll 10s. It was anticipated that better prices would come later. Store Cattle.—Some _ 250 were yarded, mostly cows and inferior young sorts. There wore a few odd pens of steers. The demand all round was capital. Young forward bullocks went to £lO 17s fid; tlirce-year-olds to £9. Other classes met a good demand. Pigs.—There were ninety-nine fats and thirty-seven slips. Porkers wore fully 5s dearer, and baconers about the same as last week.
